    • Abstract:
International audience ; This contribution is focused on the end of French Algeria and its context of violence and rupture. I propose to analyze the topic of the French civilians reported missing in this transitional and postwar period. I examine in which context disappearances occurred, who were the victims, how families mobilized, how the French government and the new Algerian state reacted at that time on this question. I also observe the impact of this traumatic event until today on relations between France and Algeria and how this event was integrated in the French collective memory and in the memory of the repatriates.
